PRODUCT FAQ

How are Chlorella and Spirulina Similar?

Chlorella and spirulina are both types of freshwater microalgae that are often referred to as "superfoods" due to their high nutrient content. Here are some similarities between the two:

  1. Nutrient content: Both chlorella and spirulina are rich in protein, vitamins (especially B vitamins), minerals (including iron, magnesium, and calcium), and antioxidants.
  2. Health benefits: Both have been shown to have a range of potential health benefits, including improving immune function, reducing inflammation, and supporting detoxification.
  3. Sustainability: Both chlorella and spirulina are considered sustainable food sources because they require relatively little land and water to produce compared to traditional livestock farming.
  4. Both are Complete Proteins, meaning you're able to get ALL your Essential Amino Acids (Something our bodies cannot produce on its own).

Taking both is a great way to diversify your diet!!

How are Chlorella and Spirulina Different?

While chlorella and spirulina share some similarities, they are also distinct in several ways:

  1. Appearance: Chlorella is a single-celled green algae with a spherical shape, while spirulina is a multicellular blue-green algae with a spiral, helix-like shape.
  2. Taste: Chlorella has a strong, earthy taste that some people find unpleasant, while spirulina has a milder taste that is often described as slightly sweet or nutty.
  3. Nutritional profile: While both chlorella and spirulina are high in nutrients, they have slightly different nutritional profiles. Chlorella is particularly rich in chlorophyll, fiber, and nucleic acids, while spirulina is high in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), a type of omega-6 fatty acid, as well as phycocyanin, a blue pigment with antioxidant properties.
  4. Digestibility: Chlorella has a tough cell wall that makes its nutrients less bioavailable, so it is often processed in a way that breaks down the cell wall to increase digestibility. Spirulina, on the other hand, has a relatively soft cell wall and is generally more easily digestible.
  5. Origin: Chlorella is primarily cultivated in Japan and Taiwan, while spirulina is commonly grown in Mexico, Africa, and Hawaii.

Are Chlorella and Spirulina safe for kids?

Certainly. Wuji Chlorella and Spirulina are completely safe for individuals of all ages, ranging from infants to the elderly. Algae has been safely consumed for centuries around the world!

For children, we suggest administering them with the same number of tablets as their age on a daily basis (for instance, for a 3-year-old, they would get 3 tablets/day, a 5-year-old would get 5 tablets/day).

As they reach adolescence or engage in activities, you can provide them with a full adult serving size.

We have found that if your children get Chlorella and Spirulina regularly, it's okay to increase their tablets/day, especially if they are working through a healing crisis, traveling, or changing their environment.

Please note that Chlorella and Spirulina are a type of food - free from sugar, caffeine, gluten, nuts, dairy, and all artificial substances. They are packed with astonishing levels of protein and nutrients that are great for growing kids!

How much Wuji Chlorella and Spirulina do I take per day?

Children: One 200mg Tablet per year of age or 1/4 tsp of Powder with Daily Drinks (okay to take more)

Adults: Start with 1 tablet and increase every other day

Recommended:

200mg: 15-25 tablets

500mg: 6-10 tablets

Powder: 1/2-1tsp

If I'm taking both Chlorella and Spirulina, how much should I be taking?

It is highly recommended to consume the full serving size of both Chlorella and Spirulina, as they provide vital building blocks for our bodies, such as essential amino acids. However, if you find it overwhelming to take both at once, you have the flexibility to split between morning and evening, or alternatively, take one full serving of either algae and half a serving of the other to still benefit from their valuable nutrients.

We also now offer Flourish, a combination tablet of Chlorella and Spirulina with a smaller serving size.

Can I overdose on Algae?

Our superfood Algae are natural, not synthetic supplements or medicinal herbs. They are food - a form that is easily absorbed by your body, making them wholesome and bioavailable.

Just like you can’t overdose on a salad, you can’t really overdose on algae either. But like everything, it’s best to listen to your own body. Some people have stomach distress if they have too much algae at once.

Since they are pure, there is no set maximum intake limit. However, as Wuji Algae is incredibly nutritious, it's best to start with the recommended daily serving size if you are new to using them.

If you need to start slowly, or feel distress when taking some, after a couple weeks and your body becomes used to the increase of nutrients, you can take as many as you want without problems!

How is Wuji Chlorella's cell wall broken?

At Wuji, our Chlorella is put through a patented special low-pressure flash expansion which breaks the chlorella cell wall in 3 seconds. The surface reveals numerous pores (similar to popped corn).

This process maintains enough of the cell wall where our bodies can benefit from the detoxifying properties the cell wall brings, but also makes nutrients bio available to us.

This process makes Wuji Chlorella 2x more digestible than other company processes.

How is your Algae dried?

Chlorella in its natural state is susceptible to spoilage, but the drying process serves to stabilize it, enabling prolonged storage. A widely embraced approach for drying chlorella involves the utilization of a spray dryer. In this method, heated air is introduced into the spray dryer, and the chlorella slurry is dispersed, forming tiny droplets that swiftly undergo drying. This yields a powdery dry chlorella with a vivid green tint and a scent reminiscent of dried seaweed and green tea. Importantly, this process maintains the product's quality while also fostering a softer and more porous cell wall.

This enhanced cell wall, a key feature of our chlorella, facilitates our patented low-pressure flash expansion, breaking the cell wall in a mere 3 seconds. This advancement significantly boosts the digestibility of Chlorella nutrients from 40% to 80%, all achieved without resorting to harsh chemicals or milling processes that could compromise the product's integrity.

To ensure the retention of nutritional value, thorough testing is conducted both prior to and following the drying process. The resulting chlorella powder demonstrates remarkable stability and, when stored under optimal conditions, upholds its quality for several years with limited signs of degradation.

A 2021 study published in the Journal of Applied Phycology showed some nutritional destruction in other drying methods (oven drying, and drum drying) but only saw the destruction of the porous structure in the spray-dried sample, this again is why we are able to use pressure to break the cell wall so easily, maintaining nutrients while increasing the digestibility.

What are the most common side effects of Chlorella and Spirulina?

Everyone is unique and everybody will respond differently to different things. It should be understood that not everything is meant for everybody. There are people allergic to peanuts, shellfish, and many other foods. Therefore, it should be no surprise that an individual could potentially have some side effects when first adding Chlorella and Spirulina to their diet.

Although adverse reactions are rare, we at Wuji, who believe in the power of adding Chlorella and Spirulina to your diet, think it is important you know about the potential adverse effects.

The most common side effect individuals experience when beginning to add Chlorella and Spirulina, a whole food, to their diet an increase in bowel movements, green stools, bloating and flatulence. Even more rare, some individuals have experienced nausea, vomiting, or an allergic reaction.

Remember everyone is unique, so listen to your body when starting anything new.

No one will care more about your Life or Health than you. Educate yourself so you can make the final decision when it comes to your life and health.

Chlorella should NOT be taken with blood thinners, specifically with a vitamin k restricted diet. There is one case study that indicates an interaction between Chlorella and the prescription blood thinning drug Warfarin commonly known as Coumadin. It is thought that this occurred due to the Vitamin K in Chlorella, which has coagulation or blood clotting properties. It is recommended by the Mayo Clinic to stay away from spinach, collard greens, and other green foods when taking Warfarin (Coumadin) due to the same reason stated above.

Chlorella Benefits

Clear Toxins From Your Body

Chlorella is recognized for its potent detoxification properties that can effectively eliminate various toxins, ranging from heavy metals to environmental pollutants. According to a research paper published in Chemosphere in 2005, Chlorella was found to boost the excretion of dioxins in stool by 9x.

Additionally, studies have demonstrated that Chlorella can remove between 40 to 90 percent of Bisphenol A (BPA) and reduce its hormone-disrupting effects, as published in Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry in 2005.

Clear Skin, Free From Breakouts, Rashes & Redness

Toxins present in our food, cosmetics, and toiletries can overburden our detoxification organs, leading to the expulsion of toxins through the skin. This process can cause various skin problems, including rashes, breakouts, rosacea, and eczema.

Chlorella is a helpful natural remedy that can support the liver and other detox organs, promoting the elimination of toxins through the bowel, resulting in clearer skin. By incorporating Chlorella into our diets, we can alleviate the toxic load on our body, and thus, minimize the risk of developing skin issues.

Anti-Aging

The Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF) is a water-soluble extract derived from chlorella, a freshwater algae. CGF is a complex of nucleic acids, amino acids, peptides, vitamins, and minerals that support chlorella's rapid growth and ability to regenerate. CGF has been shown to have various health benefits, including anti-aging properties.

CGF's high concentration of nucleic acids, particularly RNA, has been found to support the body's natural DNA repair and regeneration processes, which can slow down aging. RNA is involved in protein synthesis and cell replication, which are essential processes for maintaining healthy, youthful-looking skin and preventing wrinkles.

CGF is also rich in antioxidants, which help to protect the body from the damaging effects of free radicals and oxidative stress. Free radicals can cause cell damage and contribute to the aging process. Antioxidants help to neutralize these harmful molecules, reducing their impact on the body and potentially slowing down the aging process.

Furthermore, CGF has been found to stimulate the production of human growth hormone (HGH), which declines as we age. HGH is essential for the growth and repair of tissues, including skin, bones, and muscles. By increasing HGH levels, CGF can help to support tissue regeneration and promote anti-aging effects.

In summary, the Chlorella Growth Factor's unique combination of nucleic acids, antioxidants, and growth-promoting compounds can help support the body's natural DNA repair and regeneration processes, neutralize harmful free radicals, and promote tissue regeneration, all of which can contribute to anti-aging effects.

The Infamous Chlorella Cell Wall

What it is and why it matters

What is the cell wall?

Chlorella has one of the hardest cell walls in the plant kingdom.

The Chlorella Cell Wall is composed of several layers of complex polysaccharides, proteins, and other substances, which vary depending on the species.

One of the most notable features of the Chlorella cell wall is its thickness, which can range from 0.1 to 5 micrometers. This thickness is due to the multiple layers of structural components that make up the wall.

The Chlorella cell wall has been studied extensively for its potential health benefits, particularly for its ability to bind to heavy metals and other toxins in the body.

In order to make Chlorella's nutrients bioavailable, the cell wall must be broken

How is the cell wall broken?

There are many ways manufacturers process chlorella.

Some manufacturers use chemicals, extreme heat, sound, or even using glass beads to mill/grind the cell wall. When the cells are ground into fine powder, all the cytoplasm flow out of the cell and lead to oxidation. These methods can severely harm the delicate nutrients found within the cell wall, or not break the cell wall down far enough and it then becomes harder for our bodies to digest, limiting the nutrients available for our bodies to digest and absorb.

What does Wuji do?

At Wuji, our Chlorella is put through a patented special low-pressure flash expansion which breaks the chlorella cell wall in 3 seconds. The surface reveals numerous pores (similar to popped corn).

This process maintains enough of the cell wall where our bodies can benefit from the detoxifying properties the cell wall brings, but also makes nutrients bio available to us.

This process makes Wuji Chlorella 2x more digestible than other company processes.
